Fit Pitchin’ Friday: Random Crap that Chapped my tail this week

To start things off the fact that I have zero time for my blog, your blog or any other blog. UNFAIR

Now onto the other crap from the week past, that sent me into screaming frenzies at both the audacity and idiocy of the human creature.

This week the elected brain trust of the city of San Francisco became the first city in our fair country to ban Happy Meal toys in meals that contained over a certain amount of calories.

City supervisor Eric “I know how to parent YOUR kids”  Mar was quoted as having said, “We’re part of a movement that is moving forward an agenda of food justice”. Um.. “Food Justice”? Please do be splaining this to me Mr. Mar. You see I am such a lazy ignoramus, so unfit to parent my own children, that not only am I incapable of making good food choices for them I have no clue what the hell you are talking about. Seriously at what point did a McNugget become become public enemy number one? Was is around the same time that, we as parents collectively became wholly unable to employ the long proven tactic of “I don’t care if you want the dam toy! I said no and “no” means NO!” I do not need you or your “agenda” to tell me how to feed my family. If what you’re trying to do is make healthy food more attractive to families why not start with putting pricing caps on organic foods. Hello, my last Whole Foods bill likely knocked one of the brood off the “College Bound” list.

Chalk up a “win” for the First Amendment gang. This week the World’s largest on-line retailer, Amazon, took a stand for the little guy (which is why I’m assuming he has his “issues”) a pedophile who wrote an e-book with “guidelines that will hopefully help you if you ever get caught” (from the actual Amazon listing).  When inundated with emails from outraged customers (yours truly included) this is part of what Amazon had to say…

“our goal is to provide customers with the broadest selection possible so they can find, discover, and buy any item they might be seeking. That selection includes some items which many people may find objectionable. Therefore, the items offered on our website represent a wide spectrum of opinions on a variety of topics…Amazon.com believes it is censorship not to sell certain titles because we believe their message is objectionable. Therefore, we’ll continue to make controversial works available in the United States and everywhere else, except where they’re prohibited by law.”

(for the record Amazon will not sell adult on adult porn.. but this.. sure why not?)

I am the FIRST person who will rally behind the cause of preventing censorship. I went to a school where book banning was the local pass-time. That said, I think giving “tips and guidelines for having safe pleasure” when we’re talking about CHILDREN just might border on criminal. Thankfully Amazon freaked the fuck out when faced with a boycott during the holidays saw the light and did the right thing. The book was pulled yesterday afternoon.

Yesterday was Veterans Day. I usually have a post up (read last year’s, if only to see me in uniform, rawr). This year I didn’t write one. I saved my thoughts for today. Why? Well because the public school in the FINE state of Maryland (the “Free State”, ironically made so through the sacrifice of  Veteran.. ahem) could not .. ONCE AGAIN.. see their way to observing the day. Yep, yet again the schools were open. This really gets me. Our schools close for everything! The number of “in-services” is dizzying. Yet they can’t take pause to pay proper respect the the “service” that matters most. WHATEVERRRR! It sickens me so much, that if it were not for the fact that I’d have to spend the whole day with my own kids, I’d have pulled them out of school in protest.

You don't have to support war to support our troops!

So gang… how was your week? Who cheesed you off? What ridiculous policy chapped your hide? Which one of you has a fit to pitch? Come on.. you KNOW you wanna. SO just DO IT! Let it all hang out.. give em what for. Or just leave an anonymous comment telling off some nameless, faceless person who offended ya. We’ve all been there.

  1. I live in the left wing socialist communist bay area and I too saw the OVER REACHING POWER HUNGRY censorship of depriving children of their toys in a happy meal. Folks who feed happy meals to their kids regularly do not do it for the toys. The issues run much deeper than that! I think my kids have had three happy meals in their whole life. There are kids who have collections of toys from McD’s. This will cure NOTHING!

On censorship in the Amazon world. Yeah. That was shady and probably the only way to spin the topic without alienating their buyer base. However, pedophiles should be shot. Just a personal opinion…

Thanks for your service! I remember your pics from last year well. We’ve had two days off here in CA. For “radical left wingers” who hate the military, cause of course that describes all of California, somehow we can celebrate this day. (sarcasm hopefully works here)

  2. Well I too was chapped by Amazon and did the e-mails etc. I’ll leave my four letter words out, but you said what I would say anyway.

Thankfully one of my kids (public school not private preschool though) was out of school. So at least they took the patriotic approach, however my office did not. They never do though, so I’ll move on.

  3. Pedophiles… what can I possibly say about them? Shot, castrated, staked out in the desert with some sort of animal lure painted on them, … You get the picture. Even though Amazon pulled the e-book, I don’t think people will quickly forget their stupidity.

I haven’t had to deal with happy meals in quite a while but I do remember how painful they are to step on so taking them out of happy meals would be just dandy. On the other point of deciding what meals the junky little things are in, wouldn’t a wiser course of action be to teach the kids what is better for them and educating the parents that a steady diet of preservitive laden, high fat, little nutritional value is a bad thing and sure to turn your child into someone that will run from anything that is good for them? Just sayin’

Are you freaking kidding me?! That just pisses me off.

    1. Nope.. not kidding. Well the “I know how to parent YOUR kids” was me. But other than that, these assjackets thing we need something called “Food Justice”.. um yeah.. okay

  5. Wow! After reading this…not only is my stomach turning, but I’m really afraid to even think about where this country is heading! I am not an avid “Happy Meal” or fast food buyer, but if I decide I want to get my kids a Happy Meal, it is not because they need the toy that I will pull out of the toy box in a few weeks and through away anyway…it is usually because we are on the road and starving or it is a treat (like getting ice cream.) I agree with the making the healthier foods more affordable…why not put your slimy little fingers into that one? I didn’t realize that when you become a politician, you had this much power over other people’s lives and you get to think and decide for them in everything they may or may not do! I think the next thing they should ban are crocheted socks! That will be one less thing I would have to worry about receiving for Christmas every year…LOL! My feet are offended every year at Christmas time and I will just not have it anymore! I’m going to start a “foot justice” campaign…who’s with me?

As for Amazon, I will be shopping elsewhere.

I live in MD and my kids had off school, they scheduled their in-service day for the 11th…I don’t know if it was on purpose or if it was a coincidence though.

  6. I’m still miffed at Amazon and plan to stay away for quite some time. Maybe they’ll still see a hit to profits and give an apology. But what’s really eating my goat (is that a saying?) is my MIL. We’re staying for her for three weeks and I can’t stand the way she lies, gossips about everyone and says things about me behind my back (well, acutally, it’s on front of my back, it’s just that she thinks I can’t understand her Portuguese). Two and a half weeks to go, and I don’t know if I’m going to be able to make it!

    1. You I suspect that from time-to-time my MIL did the same thing in Italian, until I started to learn to speak it. Funny she doesn’t really use it around me all that much any more.. mmmmm 🙂

  7. How did we not meet before this!! This post got me boiling once again. My kids are grown and the whole Happy Meal Toy Ban just pisses me off. You just made me see I NEED to write about this also- just to vent, as a matter of fact, I think we should start a Mc D’s campaign to tell our Government to shut the hell up and let us parent!

I think Amazon did the right thing by taking the book off. I do understand our rights of freedom of speech and I get that anyone can write about anything legal or illegal (How to make a bomb, etc) but these companies need to have the right of discretion and NOT have these sicko books available. I also think this writer should be watched by the CIA and FBI and any other agency who can be a fly on the wall.

Maryland parents need to get together and keep all their children home on Veterans Day- maybe have a parade – and make a point. When did shitting on our Vets become OK?

So I practically wrote a post on your blog, but I think I needed that! Great to meet you!
and thanks for coming by my blog!!

  8. nice post! i was chapped at the amazon thing too- @cecilyk did a fab job of making noise on that one to get it shut down. what an outrage!

i hear you on the ‘no time to blog’ thing- getting the full time big girl job is definitely cramping my bloggy style. miss it! and you!!

  9. Ugggggh! I’m not the only one pissed off that schools won’t take a day to remember our service men and women! Thank you for your service, BTW 😉 When we were in TX, we did pull our kids out of school. If my hubby has the day off to remember his fellow service members fallen and standing, they will spend it with us as well.

And HELLO! Seriously! We eat healthy, but there are times (like during this last could months while moving) where we did eat out. Not only can you ask them to change things to make the kids meals healthy, but those who are ordering, wouldn’t be ordering just because it is unhealthy! I laugh every time we walked into a place and smack in your face there are the calories. Yeah, I highly doubt anyone ordering, cares what those calories are! Also, since when do we buy food for the toy?
