Every once in a while the stars align. Planets shift. A rift in the space/time continuum opens up off the port side and Captain Picard leads the crew into a July Christmas. Um… maybe I fell asleep reading Stark Trek last night. Oops.
Actually it’s really not that far off. At least it wasn’t at the Gaylord National Hotel lat week, when Christmas came in July with the announcement of the 2012 the theme for the ICE! /Christmas on the Potomac celebration! The kids -even the DH and I- were thrilled to be amongst those invited to the media event that showcased all the upcoming awesome. For the Nuggets crew ICE! is fast becoming a family tradition, ranking right up there with our annual Cookie Party as the highlight of our holiday season.
This year’s theme.. drum roll please… Shrek the Halls. (better than a parfait!)
From Nov. 16, 2012 to Jan. 6, 2013, The Gaylord National will come to life as “Far Far Away” with DreamWorks and TWO-MILLION pounds of artisan carved, colored ice… and SLIDES! (yup, I’m just a little excited)
The excitement doesn’t stop at the ICE! attraction either. The Christmas on the Potomac celebration is packed with breath-taking holiday decorations, a 60 foot tall stained glass Tree hung from the atrium rafters, nightly live musical entertainment, a fountain show, train rides, indoor snowfalls, DreamWorks Experience packages like ShrekFeast, character meet-and-greets, scavenger hunts, gingerbread house decorating and so much more!
The folks at Gaylord Hotels know how to create a true Winter Wonderland and if you’ve ever wanted to escape into the magic of the holidays (and not have to clean up after them) take your little elves for a stay on-site. The rooms are comfy, but this place is so much more than a hotel, they are a destination, and they do family-friendly right.
Why am I telling you this now when you’re still sweltering and the only ice you want to see is the crushed stuff in a margarita? Because now is the time to save with the gift of early bird pricing!

Disclosure: My family and I were invited guests at this press event hosted by Gaylord National and were treated to a preview of the events mentioned above. As ALWAYS my opinions are entirely my own.
